I'm going to raise this thread from the dead as I've now gotten to try these bindings. If you use the double rings to hold them tight they're very secure and i wouldn't worry about them from a safety perspective. I would not suggest using just the velcro to hold your feet in, a single velcro strap isn't meant to withstand that kind of force.
They don't have a big surface area like snowboard bindings, but they're better at spreading the force out instead of all the force right at the buckle. I wouldn't call them more comfortable, but they're not significantly less comfortable than snowboard bindings.
The big disadvantage of them, is that if you do them up properly and safely, they take a while to put on and take off. So i'll be sticking with snowboard bindings.

There's only one metal ring on the calf cuff, unlike the ankle straps which have two. While lacing around and through the ankle rings will hold the straps in place no such option is available for the calf strap.

You should look at this. There is only one ring but there should be like a divider inside it. The projump cuffs do up in the same way as the riser cuffs. Look at this. After it says about the set up it says how to do them up and mentions doing them up in the wrong way which is something you might be doing, or there could be a problem with the cuffs. Either way there are pictures so it should help ;)

If you don't wear any protection you are merely counting down the days until you end up in hospital.
If that isn't enough to convince you to wear it, consider also that a knee guard will pad out the cuff making it more comfortable and easier to tighten.

I'm talking about the calf cuff. Also I'm not wearing any form of knee protection or any protection for that matter. I did find a way around the calf cuff problem, I fold the strap and stuff a fraction of a centimeter into the cushion just below the knee which increases the contact surface area of the velcro and applies pressure to prevent it from coming off.

If you're using the velcro to hold them closed, you're doing it wrong. The buckle holds all the weight, the velcro just holds the rest of the strap out of the way.
